A Software Quality Assurance (SQA) Engineer is responsible for ensuring that software products meet the highest standards of quality, functionality, usability, and performance before being released to users. The role involves developing test plans, writing test cases, executing manual and automated tests, detecting bugs, and collaborating with development teams to ensure defects are resolved.

The SQA Engineer works across the full software development lifecycle and ensures that applications are built according to technical requirements, business expectations, and industry standards. Their primary goal is to deliver reliable, secure, and bug-free software products to end-users.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute detailed test plans, test scenarios, and test cases

  • Perform manual testing and contribute to automated testing frameworks

  • Identify, document, and track defects using bug-tracking tools

  • Perform functional, UI/UX, regression, integration, and system testing

  • Ensure performance, security, and compatibility testing where required

  • Collaborate with developers, business analysts, and product managers to resolve issues

  • Validate fixes and ensure retesting before final release

  • Provide feedback to improve product quality and user experience

  • Participate in sprint planning and Agile development processes

  • Maintain test documentation and ensure compliance with quality standards


Required Skills

Technical Skills

  • Manual testing (black-box, white-box, regression, integration, smoke testing)

  • Test case design & execution

  • Automation testing tools (Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, etc.)

  • Bug-tracking tools (JIRA, Bugzilla, Trello, ClickUp, etc.)

  • API testing tools (Postman, RestAssured)

  • SQL for data validation

  • Familiarity with SDLC & STLC

  • Performance testing (JMeter / LoadRunner) (preferred)

  • CI/CD pipelines and DevOps understanding (added advantage)

Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities

  • Attention to detail and accuracy

  • Effective communication and documentation skills

  • Team collaboration and adaptability

  • Time management and ability to work under deadlines


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field

  • Certifications like ISTQB, CSTE, or Certified QA Engineer are beneficial

  • Experience with Agile & Scrum methodologies preferred
