Q1. Dr. Gaur, your journey spans healthcare, hospitality, entrepreneurship, and social service. What has been the driving purpose behind such a diverse career?

So many people ask me why I took a lot of different routes. My response is straightforward: all travel has been based on service. Compassion, I learned in healthcare. Through entrepreneurship I learned about responsibility. The hospitality experience taught me about making memories that will last a lifetime! My lesson in social service was that I could measure success according to the positive difference we make in other people's lives. While these industries seem to be in two different worlds, they are all about people. My purpose is always to create value and improve lives when I am treating the patient, welcoming the visitor, mentoring a woman entrepreneur, or supporting a community via our foundation.

Q2. What inspires you every day after being in health care for over 25 years?

Dentistry is far more than filling cavities!A smile can bring back confidence, bring a better relationship, and can change lives. Each patient enters a clinic with a different story, concern, and/or fear. We, as healthcare workers, have a duty to make them comfortable, to make them feel safe, and to reassure them, not only in regard to treatment but also in their comfort. This human connection motivates me each and every day. The healthcare industry is ever-changing, and ongoing education is thrilling. What remains the same, however, is the opportunity to make a difference in someone's life.

Q3. You established the Alka Gaur Foundation for the benefit of society. What was the motivation for this?

As I worked my way up the career ladder, I saw success taking on a deeper meaning when it brings others opportunities. The Alka Gaur Foundation was created to tackle problems that are still prevalent in many of the communities—food, health, education, and opportunities for women. Helping Hands for Food and Health is one program in particular that is close to my heart. This program is helping to lift up underserved communities with food, health care, and other critical resources. There should be no obligation to have social responsibility. It should be a way of life. Collectively, we can make an extraordinary difference if each one of us gives a little of what we have and what we are towards society.

Q4. You're a proven leader in the businesses in healthcare, hospitality, and luxury retail. What is your entrepreneurial process like?

The bottom line of entrepreneurship is problem solving. All successful businesses start with knowledge of people. Basal Smile Center's care is geared towards compassionate healthcare. We at the Souvenir Group of Hotels are dedicated to providing memorable hospitality experiences. The Souvenir Luxe Collection is dedicated to honoring Indian culture with everlasting jewelry. Industries vary, but the principles are the same: knowing the user's expectations, keeping the quality, and exceeding the expectations. Business thrives when it is adding value to individuals.

Q5. Women empowerment has been key to your leadership path. What are some changes you hope to see in the next 10 years?

Women leaders are today showing outstanding leadership in all fields, but opportunities for equality of treatment, mentorship, financial autonomy, and leadership representation remain to be achieved. Empowerment is more than just encouraging women to participate; it's about creating ecosystems where women can lead, innovate, build businesses, and inspire future generations. I have always thought that when a woman succeeds, she creates opportunities for many women around her. So, can that ripple effect turn whole communities into a totality?

Q6. Have served in leadership roles in various organizations. How did these experiences give you insight into yourself?

Listening is the first step in leadership. People think that leadership is about decision-making. In fact, leadership is about getting to know people rather than making decisions. From interacting with the entrepreneurs at Laghu Udhyog Bharti to associates at CII, from industry leaders to tribal communities, I have found that in all these aspects, one should first show empathy before laying out a plan. In building a great management team, the best leaders establish trust first. After trust has been built, cooperation will follow.

Q7. What were your greatest challenges as an entrepreneur?

All business ventures are fraught with uncertainty. Sometimes decisions must be taken when we do have incomplete information. Setbacks, unexpected challenges, and market shifts. Resilience has been what has gotten me through these episodes. I never see failures as challenges. I see them as a chance to learn, make changes, grow, and get better. Each tough challenge has brought leadership and better decision-making.

Q8. What does success mean to you now?

In the past, success for me was defined by accomplishments and milestones. My definition has changed today. Success is making an impact! It means that patients can be seen smiling with confidence. It is helping the entrepreneurial woman to build her business. It means providing education (or healthcare support) for a child (or a family). Having achieved professional success is great, but making a positive difference is more important.

Q9. If you had to offer some tips to young entrepreneurs, especially women entrepreneurs, what would they be?

Be confident in your vision even if others don't fully grasp it. Entrepreneurship takes some courage, a lot of patience, and a lot of learning. Don't allow fear to limit your potential. Conduct business in an honorable manner. Address real-world issues. Invest in relationships. Most importantly, keep in mind that success doesn't come singly. Be surrounded by mentors, continually strive for knowledge, and stay humble.

Q10. What is today the importance of trust in business?

Trust is important in all good relationships. Technology, marketing, and innovation go hand-in-hand, but customers are looking to trust businesses overall.Trust can't be bought. It is gained by consistency, transparency, and keeping promises. Trust is the supreme competitive asset in medicine, the hotel business, or whatever.

Q11. What is Fixnhour's contribution to the visibility and credibility of the founder(s)?

What I love about Fixnhour is the emphasis on the behind-the-scenes people of the businesses. Consumers demand to know whom they are doing business with. Founder stories establish authenticity. They help companies convey their values, knowledge, and vision, going beyond their products and services. Tools such as Fixnhour help to establish trust and enhance relationships between creators, companies, and clients. Such a trust-building system is highly beneficial.

Q12. What gift do you want to give?

In the event I am remembered, I hope not just for the companies that I started. I hope they will remember the lives we impacted, the people who we helped, the women to whom we gave strength, the patients that we treated, and our culture, which we saved. Leadership is temporary; impact is permanent. If I can inspire one person to be a more compassionate, honest, and purposeful leader as a result of my journey, then I have done my job.
